Excellent
Our verdictThe Vacmaster Beast is the documentation review value pick. Vacmaster's own US store, checked October 21, 2026, lists it at $149.99 with a 12 gallon tank, 6 peak HP, 11.8 amps at 120 V, 143 CFM, 60 inches of water lift, 360 air watts, a 2-1/2 in. by 7 ft hose, a 22 ft cord and a published tool weight of 24.7 lb. The box includes a high efficiency cartridge filter, a high efficiency dust bag and a foam wet filter, which Vacmaster says capture fine dust down to 1 micron, plus two wands and four nozzles. Vacmaster's warranty table gives the Beast Series 5 years under normal household use and 90 days under commercial, industrial or rental use. The gaps: the page publishes no dimensions, no noise figure and no certification mark, the product URL still reads 5-5-peak-hp while the title and table say 6, and the page showed only 4.6 stars from 5 reviews. Buy it for the price and the paperwork. Skip it if you need a long owner-review record.

What the Beast 12 gallon actually is

The VJH1211PF 0204 is Vacmaster's 12 gallon Professional Beast Series corded wet/dry vacuum, sold direct on Vacmaster's US store as well as through retailers.

Vacmaster's page, checked October 21, 2026, describes a flat power head designed to hold tools on top, onboard hose, cord and accessory storage, wide-set casters, a balanced top handle, oversized latches, a large dust-sealed on/off switch, a large drain port and a blower conversion.

The headline claims on the page are 30 percent more suction, marked with a footnote, and 360 air watts of power. The accessory count is 10 items including a SecureLock locking hose and nozzles.

It is a single-stage corded vac. Vacmaster is a Cleva brand, and the same US store sells the Armor All and Cleva Industrial vac lines, each with its own warranty term.

This is a documentation review built from Vacmaster's product page and warranty page. We did not vacuum with it.

Who the Beast is best for

It suits buyers who want to compare numbers before buying and dislike paying for a brand name.

  • Garage woodworkers cleaning up after a Skil PWR CORE 20 circular saw or a DeWalt DCS570
  • Buyers on a budget who still want a 2-1/2 in. hose and a published water lift figure
  • Anyone with a long room, since the 22 ft cord gives a stated 29 ft of cleaning reach
  • People who hate buying filters separately, because a cartridge filter, a dust bag and a foam wet filter all ship in the box
  • Storm-prep households that already own a Champion dual fuel generator and need a wet vac for the aftermath
  • Homeowners who care about the weight, since 24.7 lb is the only figure any of these four makers publishes

Who should skip it

Three buyers should look elsewhere.

  • Contractors and rental fleets: commercial, industrial or rental use drops the warranty to 90 days
  • Buyers who read owner reviews before buying: Vacmaster's page showed 4.6 stars from only 5 reviews
  • Anyone doing lead-safe renovation work, because this model is not in Vacmaster's certified HEPA line

The specifications that decide the purchase

Vacmaster's specification block, checked October 21, 2026, is the most complete of the four pages we read.

Motor 11.8 A, 120 V, 60 Hz. Peak HP 6. Tank size 12 gallons. CFM 143. Water lift 60 inches. Air watts 360. Hose diameter 2-1/2 in. Hose length 7 ft. Power cord length 22 ft. Tool weight 24.7 lb.

Included items are the 7 ft by 2-1/2 in. kink-resistant hose, two extension wands, a utility nozzle, a crevice tool, a floor brush and squeegee nozzle, and an air and noise diffuser.

The filtration parts included are a high efficiency cartridge filter, a high efficiency dust bag and a foam wet filter.

What is missing: dimensions, noise level in decibels, and any electrical safety listing. We read the whole page and found none of those, so we do not print them.

One inconsistency to flag: the page URL still contains 5-5-peak-hp while the product title and the specification table both read 6 peak HP. We report the table.

143 CFM and 60 inches: how the Beast is tuned

Shop vacs are tuned either for air volume or for sealed suction, and this one sits in the middle with a bias toward lift.

CFM is the air volume the motor moves, and it is what carries sawdust, leaves and drywall crumbs up the hose. Vacmaster lists 143 CFM and footnotes that CFM, water lift and air watts are tested to an ASTM standard.

Water lift is sealed suction, measured in inches of water column with the inlet blocked. It is what pulls standing water out of a corner and what frees a wedged object. Vacmaster lists 60 inches.

Air watts combine the two at a test point. At 360, this vac beats the 14 gallon Ridgid's 301 on that measure while moving 22 CFM less air.

The practical reading: for water and for stubborn pickups it is stronger than its price suggests. For sweeping large volumes of light debris, a higher CFM vac finishes sooner.

And a reminder on units: the 650 CFM printed on the Ego Power+ leaf blower is free-air blower output, not suction through a 2-1/2 in. hose. The numbers are not comparable.

Ease of use: what the 4.3 is built from

Ease is helped by one thing no rival here offers: a published weight.

At 24.7 lb empty, you know what you are lifting onto a truck bed or down stairs.

Wide-set casters and a balanced top handle are the page's stated mobility features, and the flat power head gives the nozzles somewhere to live rather than rolling around the floor.

The 22 ft cord is the longest here, and the 29 ft reach claim means fewer trips to a different outlet. Oversized latches and a large dust-sealed switch are the kind of details that matter when your hands are dirty.

Against it: 12 gallons of water is about 100 lb, so the drain port is not optional, and no dimensions are published, so you cannot check the footprint against a shelf before buying. Ease scores 4.3.

Features: what the 4.4 is built from

The feature list is strong for the money, with one notable absence.

Filtration ships three ways: a high efficiency cartridge filter, a high efficiency dust bag and a foam wet filter. Vacmaster says the filter and bag capture fine dust particles down to 1 micron.

That is the right kit for drywall or sanding dust, and buying the same three parts separately would add real cost.

The SecureLock hose and nozzles address the oldest annoyance in shop vacs, which is a nozzle that pulls off mid-job. The blower conversion and the large drain port are both present.

The absence is certification. There is no HEPA claim for this machine, and Vacmaster's own certified HEPA wet/dry vac line is a different product, the 8 gallon VK811PH. Features scores 4.4.

Value: what the 4.8 is built from

This is where the Beast wins outright, and it is not close.

At $149.99 on Vacmaster's own store on October 21, 2026, it undercuts the 12 gallon Shop-Vac SVX2 utility vac at $256.91 on shopvac.com by $106.92, by our arithmetic, while listing 3 more CFM and 10 fewer inches of water lift.

Against the Ridgid models the comparison is harder because Ridgid publishes no price at all, so a buyer cannot compare without visiting a retailer. The Beast's page also states free shipping over $100 and a 30 day return period.

The filters and bag in the box matter here too. Vacmaster's own replacement prices on the same page run from $3.99 for a cloth filter to $29.99 for a HEPA material cartridge filter, so starting with three filtration parts fitted has a cash value.

Value scores 4.8, the highest of this cluster.

Support and warranty: what the 4.2 is built from

The warranty is good for a household and thin for anyone else, and Vacmaster states both plainly.

Vacmaster's warranty page, read October 21, 2026, gives Professional Wet/Dry Vacs in the Beast Series a 5 year factory limited warranty under normal household use and 90 days under commercial, industrial or rental use.

Plain Vacmaster wet/dry vacs get 2 years household and Professional non-Beast models 3 years.

The page lists exclusions clearly: misuse and negligence, consumables such as cartridge filters, cloth filters, dust bags and foam filter sleeves, and normal wear of parts such as hose, nozzles or casters.

Also excluded are exterior finish deterioration, any product with a tampered serial label, and any product bought from an unauthorised retailer.

Dated proof of purchase is required, claims start with a customer service call or a warranty authorisation request, and the page says shipping and processing fees may apply.

The product manual is linked from the product page. Support scores 4.2: clear terms, real limits, and a cost to using them.

What published owner ratings say

Vacmaster's product page showed 4.6 stars from 5 reviews on October 21, 2026, in a rating widget sitting directly beside the SKU VJH1211PF 0204.

Five reviews is not a usable sample. It tells you nothing about failure rates at year three, which is exactly what a buyer wants to know about a $149.99 vac with a 5 year warranty.

The contrast with Ridgid is stark: 1,397 reviews on the HD1400 page and 2,347 on the WD4070 page the same day, both on Ridgid's own store.

We could not read retailer review pages for this model on October 21, 2026, so we do not summarise owner complaints we have not seen. Treat the 4.6 as provisional and weigh the warranty terms more heavily instead.

HEPA, 1 micron and what this vac is not rated for

Vacmaster is unusually clear about the difference between a HEPA filter and a HEPA vacuum, and the distinction rules this model out of some jobs.

On its certified HEPA collection page, read October 21, 2026, Vacmaster writes that a HEPA-certified vacuum has been independently tested and verified as a sealed filtration system capturing 99.97 percent of particles as small as 0.3 microns.

The same page says that terms such as HEPA-type or HEPA material refer only to the filter media.

The only vac in that certified collection is the 8 gallon VK811PH. The 12 gallon Beast is not in it, and its page claims fine dust capture down to 1 micron, not 0.3.

So for EPA lead-safe renovation work on a pre-1978 house, this is the wrong machine. For sawdust, drywall dust, water and general debris, the included filter and bag are appropriate.

We found no UL, ETL or CSA listing statement in the text of the product page. We are reporting what the page does not say, not asserting that the product lacks a listing.

Filters and consumables: the recurring cost

Filters are excluded from the warranty on every vac in this cluster, so their price is part of the purchase.

Vacmaster lists its own replacements on the same product page, checked October 21, 2026: the VCFS standard cartridge filter at $14.99, the VCPET washable cartridge at $19.99, the VCFF fine dust cartridge at $19.99, and the VCFH HEPA material cartridge at $29.99.

The cloth and foam parts on that page are a single VRC51 cloth filter at $3.99, a VRC5 three-pack at $9.99 and the VFF51 foam wet filter at $4.99.

Bags are VDBL dust bags at $15.99 for a three-pack and VHBL high efficiency bags at $22.99 for a three-pack.

Vacmaster also states that several of those parts fit most Shop-Vac units of similar size, which widens where you can buy them.

The routine that keeps airflow up is simple. Use a bag for fine dust, swap to the foam sleeve for wet pickup, and clean the pleated cartridge when suction drops rather than replacing it.

Alternatives worth a look

Three alternatives cover the cases where the Beast is not the answer.

Shop-Vac 12 gallon SVX2 utility vac. 140 CFM, 70 inches of sealed pressure, 370 air watts, $256.91 on shopvac.com. Choose it for the highest lift figure here and a lifetime home use warranty. Otherwise choose the Beast and keep the $106.92.

Ridgid HD1400. 165 CFM, 56 inches of lift, 301 air watts, a 14 gallon drum and five accessories, under a lifetime warranty term, with no price published. Choose it for airflow and volume if a retailer prices it sensibly.

Ridgid WD4070. 4 gallons, 110 CFM, 49 inches of lift. Choose it only if storage space or car detailing decides the purchase.

If the real job is outdoors rather than indoors, the Sun Joe pressure washer is the better tool, and our first power tools for homeowners guide explains where a shop vac sits in a first tool kit.

For the saw that makes the mess, start with our cordless circular saw guide.

Buy it if / Skip it if

The decision in one list.

  • Buy it if you want the lowest published price in this group with a full spec table behind it
  • Buy it if three filtration parts in the box and a 22 ft cord matter to you
  • Buy it if the vac will live in a household garage rather than on a jobsite
  • Skip it if you need the vac for commercial, rental or jobsite use, where the warranty is 90 days
  • Skip it if you want hundreds of owner reviews before spending money
  • Skip it if your work needs a certified HEPA sealed system

Frequently asked

Short answers to the questions people search before buying the Vacmaster Beast.

Bottom line

The Vacmaster Beast is the most transparent product page in this cluster and the cheapest vac on it.

Vacmaster prints $149.99, 12 gallons, 143 CFM, 60 inches of water lift, 360 air watts, 11.8 amps, a 22 ft cord and 24.7 lb, then ships a cartridge filter, a dust bag and a foam wet filter in the box.

The costs are a thin owner-review record at 5 reviews, no dimensions or certification statement, a 90 day warranty for anything but household use, and a product URL that still disagrees with its own spec table about peak HP.

For a home garage that needs a 12 gallon wet vac this autumn, it is the value pick and the one we would shortlist first on price.

Best for

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Vacmaster Beast 12 gallon vac?
Vacmaster's own US store listed it at $149.99 on October 21, 2026, with free shipping over $100 and a 30 day return period stated on the page. That was the lowest published price among the four shop vacs we read that day.
How much suction does the Vacmaster Beast have?
Vacmaster lists 143 CFM of airflow, 60 inches of water lift and 360 air watts, from an 11.8 amp 120 V motor, as of October 21, 2026. It footnotes that all three figures are tested to an ASTM standard at the end of the included hose.
Is the Vacmaster Beast 5.5 or 6 peak HP?
Vacmaster's product title and specification table both read 6 peak HP as of October 21, 2026, although the page URL still contains 5-5-peak-hp. We report the specification table. Peak HP is a laboratory comparison figure in any case.
What is the Vacmaster Beast warranty?
Five years. Vacmaster's warranty table gives Professional Wet/Dry Vacs in the Beast Series a 5 year factory limited warranty under normal household use, and 90 days under commercial, industrial or rental use. Filters, bags, hoses, nozzles and casters are excluded.
Does the Vacmaster Beast have a HEPA filter?
Not as shipped. The box includes a high efficiency cartridge filter and dust bag that Vacmaster says capture fine dust down to 1 micron. Vacmaster's certified HEPA wet/dry vac is a different model, the 8 gallon VK811PH, and it sells a VCFH HEPA material cartridge filter at $29.99.
How much does the Vacmaster Beast weigh?
Vacmaster lists a tool weight of 24.7 lb, which is the only weight published by any of the four makers in this cluster. That figure is for the empty vac; 12 gallons of water would add roughly 100 lb.
Can the Vacmaster Beast be used as a blower?
Yes. Vacmaster's feature list says it easily converts to a blower, and the box includes an air and noise diffuser. As with any shop vac, treat the blower mode as a convenience rather than a replacement for a dedicated blower.
