I'm Mike. Twenty years of weekend projects, home renovations, and a garage that's part workshop, part tool-review lab - plus the receipts from every tool I bought wrong before learning better.
Machine Unpacked exists because tool marketing is a fog of torque numbers and action shots that tell you nothing about which machine fits which job. We cut through it: real use, plain English, honest verdicts.
Our rule: recommend the tool we'd lend a neighbor - and warn you off the ones we quietly returned.
How we review
We sign up for and actively use every tool we write about. Each product is scored across four pillars — ease of use, features, value for money, and support — each rated from 1 to 5. The overall score is the average of those four numbers, always on a clear 5-point scale.
Our independence
Some of our links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission when you sign up through us. This funds our testing. It never influences a score or ranking — a low-scoring tool with an affiliate program still gets a low score. You will find tools rated below average on this site, on purpose.
