Tap Tag Review: What NFC Tap Cards Actually Cost to Own

Tap Tag sells NFC cards, stickers, signs and keychains that hand your contact details or your Google review page to any modern phone. Hardware starts at $3.95, and the profile software behind it has a free tier the vendor calls free forever. This review reads the company's own product feed, pricing page, warranty terms and returns policy. Every figure was checked October 21, 2026.

The short verdict

Tap Tag is a hardware company with software attached, and it is priced like one. The tags are cheap, the catalog is wide, and the recurring cost is optional rather than buried in the checkout.

Judged the way this site judges machines, the spec sheet holds up. The chips are standard NTAG parts, they ship unlocked, and a free phone app can rewrite them whenever you want.

The weak number is the warranty. Coverage is three months on everything unless you add $19 at checkout, which is short for an object you plan to hand out for years.

This is a documentation review. It is built from the vendor's published pages, store feed and policies, not from physical use of the product.

Disclosure: the Tap Tag links on this page are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That arrangement does not change what the vendor's own pages say.

What Tap Tag sells, and what it costs

The catalog is NFC hardware in every shape a small business might hand out, stick down or stand on a counter. The store's own product feed returned 67 published listings on October 21, 2026.

Roughly ten of those are private order portals built for named clients, so the public catalog sits near the 40-plus items the FAQ claims. That count is our arithmetic from the feed.

Here is what the feed showed on that date.

  • Original Sticky Tap Tag: $7.95 in ten patterns - the phone-back sticker the company launched with in 2020
  • Tap Classic Card: $9.95 for current plastic cards, $3.95 for leftover first-generation colors
  • Custom black anodized steel card: $49.95, or $59.95 to remove Tap Tag branding
  • Gold-plated steel card: $79.95. Bamboo or cherry wood cards: $29.95 each
  • Google review card: $19.95 for one, $149.95 for a ten-pack
  • Review bundles of signs, cards and stickers: $99 to $299
  • NFC desktop reader/writer: $59.95, for programming tags in bulk from a computer

A ten-pack of classic plastic cards is $32.95, which works out to $3.30 a card by our arithmetic. That is the number to set against printed paper cards, not the $49.95 steel one.

Two upcharges are easy to miss. Removing Tap Tag branding adds $5 to a review card and $10 to the steel business card, per the variant prices in the feed.

Choosing between a card and a stick-on tag is a smaller version of drill versus impact driver: same family, different job. The card gets handed over; the tag stays on your phone.

The software is free, and the upgrades are where the money goes

Every tag ships linked to a profile you claim by tapping it once. The free plan is not a trial. The FAQ states it is free forever, with no purchase necessary to use it.

The paid tiers are cheap by software standards and sold with no contract. These are the published rates, read October 21, 2026.

  • Digital business card, Pro: $8/month or $60/year, up to three profiles
  • Digital business card, Teams: $3/month or $30/year per user, unlimited profiles
  • Teams at scale: $30/year per user for the first 100 users, then $10.40/year for users 101 to 1,000
  • Review capture, Review+: $19/month or $190/year, up to three locations
  • Review capture, Multi-Review+: $10/month or $50/year per location, unlimited locations

A ten-person crew on Teams costs $300 a year, against $600 for ten individual Pro seats. That comparison is our arithmetic from the two published rates.

The free plan's limits are what to check first. It caps you at two profiles, seven days of analytics and one review destination, with lead capture and custom branding held back for upgrades.

The vendor says Teams and Multi-Review+ buyers qualify for free or heavily discounted custom hardware. No amount is published, so treat that as a negotiation rather than a listed discount.

The chips are standard NTAG parts you can reprogram

The FAQ names the hardware plainly: NTAG213 or NTAG215, shipped unlocked, readable from about two to three inches on most phones. Those are ordinary NFC parts, not a proprietary chip.

That matters the way an open battery platform matters. Nothing welds the physical card to the vendor's software, and you can point it at your own URL with a free app.

It is the same question worth asking of a cordless tool battery label: what is actually inside, and who controls it after the sale.

One trap is stated in the policy. If you lock or password-protect a chip yourself, that change is permanent and Tap Tag will not refund the item.

Compatibility is broad. The FAQ says iPhone XR and newer read tags with no app, and that roughly 97% of phones from 2018 onward have native NFC. Android owners may need NFC switched on.

A sticker on the back of a work phone is the cheapest version of all this, and it lives where the most abused tool on the truck already is.

Warranty, shipping and returns, in plain numbers

The standard warranty is three months on every product. A $19 add-on extends that to three years and covers items lost or damaged, per the warranty listing in the store feed.

Read that add-on's ceiling before buying it. It covers up to $150 of product, is valid only up to $250 of product value, and replacements still carry a $3.95 US shipping charge.

Three months is a modest promise next to the lifetime terms on a mechanic's tool set. It is also honest about what a $9.95 plastic card is worth replacing.

US shipping is free over $30 and tracked, quoted at five to seven days. The company says it will replace an undelivered order under $500 if tracking shows nothing by the fifteenth day.

Turnaround is the figure the company pushes hardest. Orders under 50 items ship the same or next business day, and the bulk page claims a 12-hour average order-to-ship time.

Returns run 30 days from delivery. Custom items are handled case by case rather than by right, and the buyer pays return shipping either way.

For a crew ordering fifty engraved cards, that discretion is the line that matters. Anyone who has run a laser engraver knows a bad file shows up after the burn, not before.

What buyers report, and where the ratings disagree

Two public ratings exist and they do not agree. The gap between them is worth understanding before you lean on either one.

On taptag.shop, the Judge.me widget showed 1,342 reviews store-wide on October 21, 2026, including 4.6 on the Google review card and 4.8 on the custom steel business card.

Those are first-party reviews the merchant displays on its own storefront. They are useful for comparing products inside the store, less useful for judging the store itself.

On Trustpilot the same company sat at 2.8 out of 5 from 8 reviews, checked October 21, 2026. Eight is far too small a sample to call a verdict either way.

The themes that repeat there are support tone and custom artwork altered without a proof, in entries dated 2022, 2023 and November 2025. Two other reviewers praise the custom cards and the help they received.

One reviewer makes a fair technical point: a Google review link is free from your own Business Profile. What Tap Tag sells is the object that carries that link, not the link itself.

The vendor's review-product page claims users report an average +500% increase in five-star reviews. No sample size or method is published, so there is nothing there to verify.

Who it suits, who should skip it

Buy it if:

  • You hand out contact details in person all week - trades, service calls, sales rounds, trade shows
  • You want a review link customers can tap instead of type, which starts at $19.95 for a single card
  • You are ordering stock items, not custom ones, where the 30-day return right is clearly stated
  • You like one object that replaces three - the same logic as a multi-bit screwdriver
  • You want to stay off a subscription, because the free profile tier covers one person properly

Skip it if:

  • You expect a long warranty as standard. Three months is short unless you add the $19 extension
  • Your customers carry older phones. Native tap reading starts around 2018 handsets, per the vendor's list
  • You only need the review link. Google hands that out free from your Business Profile
  • You are ordering custom artwork on a deadline. Returns on personalized items are discretionary, not guaranteed

Frequently asked questions

Does Tap Tag require a subscription?

No. Every product includes a free digital profile the FAQ describes as free forever, with no purchase necessary. Upgrades are optional and start at $8 per month or $60 per year for Pro, checked October 21, 2026.

How much does a Tap Tag card cost?

Plastic cards ran $9.95 in the product feed on October 21, 2026, with leftover first-generation colors at $3.95. Custom black anodized steel is $49.95, and the gold-plated steel card tops the range at $79.95.

Can you reprogram a Tap Tag?

Yes. The FAQ states the chips are NTAG213 or NTAG215 and ship unlocked, so a free phone app can rewrite them to any URL. Locking a chip yourself is permanent and voids a refund.

What warranty does Tap Tag include?

Three months as standard on all products. A $19 extended warranty raises that to three years, covering up to $150 of product on orders worth $250 or less, with $3.95 US shipping on replacements.

Does Tap Tag ship free?

Free tracked US shipping applies over $30, quoted at five to seven days. International orders ship at rates calculated at checkout, and the FAQ warns that customs duties fall to the buyer.

Can you return a custom Tap Tag order?

The 30-day return and exchange policy covers non-custom orders. Personalized items are handled case by case, with the outcome depending on quantity, cost and timing. Return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Bottom line

Tap Tag is cheap hardware with published policies and a free software tier that genuinely is free. That combination is rarer than it should be in this category.

Hold four numbers going in: $7.95 for the entry sticker, $30 to clear free US shipping, three months of warranty, and 30 days to return a stock item.

If you are kitting out a crew, start from the $3.30-a-card ten-pack math and add the $19 extension only to items you could not cheaply replace.
